There are about a million great kids books out there. If I listed all the books we enjoyed, this page would go on way too long. So I’m just picking some of my kids’ favorites.
This page focuses on Early Reader books, but take a look at my Picture Books, Short Chapter Books, Longer Chapter books, and Magazine pages.
And I’ll add that while this tip may be obvious, the best way I’ve found great new books for my kids is by asking children’s librarians.
Below the list, I included a link to the same book list in my Bookshop.org shop. Every purchase at Bookshop.org directly supports independent bookstores, which I think is pretty cool!
Early Reader
Henry and Mudge books by Cynthia Rylant. I love these books. I read these to the kids when they were little, then they read them to me as they learned to read. She also writes the Annie and Snowball books which are similarly lovely (Henry and Annie are cousins).
Mr. Putter and Tabby books by Cynthia Rylant. These books are also great. Same as above; good to read to kids, and then good for kids to read to you or solo.
Biscuit books by Alyssa Capucilli
Mo Jackson books by David A. Adler. All the books are fun and sports related.
Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel
Pinky and Rex books by James Howe
Cork and Fuzz books by Dori Chaconas
Piggie and Elephant books, and Pigeon books by Mo Wilems (do yourself a favor and check out all his books).
