Booklist for Kids: Magazines

This page contains affiliate links. I participate in the Amazon Associates and Bookshop.org programs and can earn from qualifying purchases. Please read my full statement here.

This page focuses on Magazines, but take a look at my pages on Picture Books, Early Reader, Short Chapter Books, and Longer Chapter books.

And I’ll add this tip in case you aren’t aware: you can find magazines at most libraries to try out before committing to a subscription.

Below the list, I included a link to a Puzzle/Activity book list in my Bookshop.org shop, which contains many books made by the magazines I recommend. Every purchase at Bookshop.org directly supports independent bookstores, which I think is pretty cool!

Magazines

  • Highlights- puzzles, stories, crafts, recipes. We love this one. Ages 6-12.

  • High Five- like Highlights for the 3-5 crowd.

  • Chickadee- this is like a Canadian version of Highlights. The age they recommend is 6-9.

  • Chirp- the younger version of Chickadee, ages 3-6.

  • National Geographic Kids (also called Nat Geo Kids, 7-12)

  • The Week Junior- this magazine focuses on news, but also has activities and puzzles. Definitely for big kids, 8-14.

  • Ranger Rick- 7+. These magazines focus almost solely on animals, so best for kids who are honed in on animal content!

  • Ranger Rick Jr.- for ages 4-7.

Check out my Puzzle/Activity Booklist on Bookshop.org that includes books from Highlights and National Geographic.
